Yangon, May 30
The President’s Office said that the Arakan Army AA had rejected yesterday’s announcement that the government troops and the Tatmadaw would leave the state, and that the violence would continue.
He said this during an online press conference held today with RFA reporters.
The AA has been implementing the Tatmadaw scheme in Arakan State, and the AA will not accept any armed forces of the Burmese government in Arakan State. The AA announced yesterday that it had informed all the government troops in Arakan State that they would leave the country unconditionally.
Zaw Htay, director general of the President’s Office, said that the armed struggle would not succeed. The war is long and the local people will suffer. He said that the meeting was still open.
“AA is the only non-EAO organization in all EAOs in the history of ethnic armed groups in Myanmar. Therefore, the AA has been classified as a terrorist organization. The last AA is a statement of administration and armed organizations departing from Arakan State. Therefore, we offer a Bilateral Ceasefire for peace talks, we will hold a meeting in Myitkyina, we will ask for informal talks before the big talks, but the response is no longer satisfactory, no longer a call for ethnic rights, and violence. It was announced as a partner organization. With regard to terrorist activities, the government will continue to carry out counter-insurgency operations. However, the negotiation route is not closed. We also asked the rest of the organization recently from Peace Creation Group. Are you willing to talk? “The immediate reaction is not favorable.”
The AA attacked the Thazin Myaing base in Ratataung yesterday and arrested six people as captives. Two women and two 2-year-old children were released on bail. Also on May 29th, Thar Taung Township, Arakan State The Soe Thu Win, a rural health officer from Yeiktan village, was released.
